for the first like 14 years of my life i thought that the story of saint valentine and valentines day were a celebration of a massive gay polyamorous marriage and let me tell you, i was sorely disappointed when i learned i had massively misunderstood that story
i was told the basic story of “the king had made it illegal for young men to get married so that they could be drafted off to go to war (as married men with families were not, apparently)” and that “saint valentine thought this was cruel, and married the young men in secret”
what this was supposed to communicate to me was “saint valentine would marry young men to their girlfriends in secret as a priest at his own risk and thats why we celebrate valentines day”
what i got out of it was “saint valentine married a shitton of dudes so he could protect his army of husbands from having to go to war and it was beautiful and love can halt war in its tracks and thats why we celebrate valentines day”
and thats why the assumption that a child would automatically get a hetero interpretation of the story and the innate unclarity of the english language made me think that valentines day was about mass gay poly marriage until i was like fourteen and recited the story to a friend who stared at me like id grown three extra heads
Literally heard a convo at the library where a guy was telling a girl that he’s an omega and the girl telling him that she’s a beta, and my mind just did not automatically connect the context to fraternity pledge classes at all and I just whispered to myself “what the fuck?? What the fuck??”
To celebrate Super Mario’s 35th Anniversary, 7-Eleven stores in Japan are selling food inspired by the games. (Feb. 5-March 1, 2021)
I had to look these up.
The first one is the Mario Mix Roll. One side is a croquette with a ketchup sauce and egg salad, the other side is a Mushroom Napolitan. Napolitan is a Japanese version of pasta that is made with a ketchup based sauce rather than a traditional tomato sauce.
Yoshi’s green melon bread, (unlike regular melon bread which is named for its shape) has melon juice cream and whipped cream inside.
Koopa’s fire-breathing super hot fried chicken roll. There’s hot spice in the chicken batter and chili sauce on the roll.
Princess Peach’s Dolce is strawberry rare cheese and strawberry jelly. There’s lemon whip cream on top, with milk and strawberry jelly.
Shining Star milk kanten. Kanten is an agar-agar jelly. It’s got pineapple sauce on top.
Fire Flower curry bun of flames. It’s got a tomato and chicken curry inside. It isn’t as spicy as the Koopa roll, despite the name.
If vampires were real there’d be an MLM trying to sell you ineffective anti-vampire creams and an MLM trying to sell you fake training courses to turn you into a vampire.
